slumping glass into a mold

the working process

This flat “blank” was assembled by layering textured and sand-blasted glass, plus large and small chunks of glass, onto a clear base piece. After one firing, it’s suitable for display.

The second firing is done at
      a lower temperature — just
     enough for the semi-liquid
       glass to drop down into
        the mold it’s carefully
               positioned over.

The end result is this unique glass piece, featuring a round bowl and a curved edge (to the right).

Note that the central, clear strip of glass has stretched and lost some of its texture after the second firing.
